new to loging

Hey so i'm trying to learn some more about this stuff and was trying to run a log on my car. I have 1.9.3.2 sw version and was able to flash a new tune to my car. everything says its conected properly but I cant for the life of me figure out how to to a log. I tried to enter some variable definitions but wasn't sure what else to do. Are the definitions specific to each ecu or just general? also what is the Read variables tab for?
sorry if these are pretty stupid questions I'm just not sure were to start with this.

From what I understand, you need to run your .bin through the .ecu configuration process using setzi's ME7Logger software:
