Hi. Ran across a guy with a 2000 S4 who is doing a super low budget build. I agree with none of it but I'm not him.

Along with reusing old piston rings and just a drill powered rehone he also putting on ebay k04s n the larger intake pipes.

Now has no other mods other then the apr stg 1 93 octane ecu flash.

I said to him that I'm not sure if the stock injectors will be able to be under 100% duty cycle with the higher boost request from apr tune and the larger amount of CFM the k04 will make.

So to be nice I decided to post this question as to help him so he don't screw things up even more.

No. As simple as that. Do it right or don't do it.

Stage 1 should be fine but it will be far from optimal.

Fine ?

Come one guys ! Different intake, different turbo.

Do I need to explain you how it will affect MAF reading ? And so fuel calculation, load calculation, etc ?
Do I need to remember you what kind of lambda sensor is used on S4 ?
And so on.

This is not fine, this is CRAP.

Dude.  You are teeing off on this guy.
The car will run fine,
It'll boost 14 or 15 psi and be a shit k04 car but he can drive it that way until he does a normal stage 3 setup.

Yeah like I said lets not go into all the things wrong with his setup. Plain and simple will he be fine with the maybe spike to 15psi he saw on k03's.

But if he can run it that way for now that's all I was getting.

Thanks for your replys

Depends on the (shit chinese) wastegates. If they're too tight, it'll have MASSIVE overboost that the stage1 file won't be able to help with. Best bet, put the k03 actuators on, and set them to stock preload. Then he can probably eek by.

He will be fine (tune wise, the turbos will shit the bed in short order but that's a different subject), I was for over a year. Is it optimal? no.

Oo. Forgot to ask. He has blown set of OEM BW k04's would those wastegates be a better choice for him at this point?

K03 wastegates are fine. Use those. Tell him to sell me the blown BW K04's and he won't have to deal with his substandard stage1.

Ill ask him. I know when I asked he wanted $250 but both needed new center cartridges. Not sure why. He never said if the shafts or wheels were good. If just the JB were shot and a rebuild kit would do. I could ask him to let me see them and ill take them apart.

My PTE 6152e I bought on ebay was toasted inside cause of not using right oil restrictor and I had to rebuild that and get a new shaft/wheel. Hopefully they don't need a whole cartridge.

I agree with DD.

No problems if you use k03 wastegates.

If you are really paranoid, you can always plop in an MBC, which will also let you run k04 wg's so you can upgrade to stage3- or full stage3 later w/o having to pull the motor again.

Honestly, it is a pretty safe mod, as much as I hate hack jobs.

He traded them for hybrid k03/k04is that's all i know. Then had a water leak in bell housing on start up. He did a 6 speed swap so he's screwed on ecu right now anyways he has a TIP Apr tuned ecu. So idk what he's doing he's been upset since water leak haven't heard from him. I have no clue what ecu he's even using at the moment.

the wastegates arent bad, they just behave differently than oem. also hopefully he knows the ck04 from ebay need ported wg hole on exhaust housing or else there will be boost creep

it does amaze me how well you can get a cheap ck04 setup. inlets, turbos, downpipes, exhaust, intercooler. sure you need to "make it work" but still pretty impressive compared to the awe OTS kits that ran 18psi
