Does anyone have any ide on how to reverse engineer a VW cluster? Would ida and similar tools work or does anyone have an idea to how this could be done?

I don't know which type of cluster your are refering to, but yes if you have flash then you can start to disasm using IDA.

Sure.
For Micronas check out xprog, this can bypass protection and read flash.
