Probably the opposite of what many may be interested in doing but I'm curious to see if anyone has tried or successfully added traction control (ESP) to they B5 A4 and what is/may need to be involved to make the system function.

I haven't dug very deep at all yet but what I'm thinking would need to be added or confirmed:

1: ABS Module would have to match the B5 S4 (maybe it already does)
2: Wiring for ESP button from ABS module
3: Proper coding/tuning of the ECU.
4: Possibly a different ECU/binary
5: ABS coding

Anyone have any insight?

I think you're able to just softcode CH or M (not sure about the narrowband or cable throttle setups) and probably use b5s4 hardware and harnesses. There are some automatic awms that came with it from the factory.

My car is an ATW but I’ve converted to the wideband 018CH ECU. I’ll have a closer look at the soft coding.

If you use an Me7.5 with a good esp/abs module i think from hardware side you can do it..However you will need a lot of predictive algos and maps to achieve such a thing in a way that it will matter.

Take a look on the new med17 systems(2014+) that are already include such an option..you would need lots of coding to get something like this done properly.

Something simple would be a throttle control algo similar to the esp.The amount of work that is required is a lot....

I'm thinking esp will be functional with just proper soft code changes and wiring in your setup. If not, a few of the passat awm flashes could probably used with an immo-defeat eeprom.

Looks like the A4’s ABS module doesn’t support ASR and I’d have to swap it out for an S4 unit and potentially other assorted wiring/coding. I’m going to look for a used S4 pump/module.

Yes you'll need full b5s4/a6 hardware and wiring for the esp controller and solenoid pump setup.
