Anyway i have a tuned flash file from my mates 2001 B6 1.8T APU ECU: 8E0906018B which was put on the rollers and tuned to 200bhp, what i need to find out would it be possible to put this file onto my 2001 B6 1.8T AVJ ECU: 8E0909518 without any problems?

Thanks

You can post both files, or you can open both in a hex editor like WinOLS and take a look. Is there any differences hardware wise between each model? Ex:car 1 has map sensor, car 2 doesn't. Car 1 has wideband, car 2 has narrowband. Are both files 1024kb? I assume so, but what country are you located in?

Thanks for your help very much appreciated, ive been reading up on this for the past week or so and comparing the files in WinOLS/TunerPro but tbh its way to much to take in for a begginer (maps that is) Im a qualified mechanic so hands on stuff isnt a problem,

We are in the UK, both files are 1mb (1024kb) im not sure if any sensors are diffrent ive not looked, i can upload the files if you dont mind looking at them for me? where do i upload them? both here or 1 in the standard section and one in the tuned section?

Thanks

Make sure the files are both the same size.

Use setzis ME7Info program to get the identification numbers out of the files, or use the NefMoto software to read the ECU identification info. Then compare the numbers and see how close the hardware and software numbers are.

Bosch HW number: 0261206869
Bosch SW number: 1037354008
VAG software version:   0001
CPU Siemens C167CR
Flash Chip: 29F800BT

Numbers look really close. I think it is worth trying to flash the ECU to the other file.

If something goes wrong and it doesn't work, worst case, you will need to bench flash the ECU in boot mode.

You can find setzis tools for getting ECU info and generating memory layouts here: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=837.0

You should do everything Tony said (he would know!!), and I would definitely check to make sure each car has the same hardware. (You said your a mechanic right?)  I think your good though...

Thanks Tony i will give it a bash tomorrow and post results, im capable of boot mode flashing if it does mess up so thats not a problem, also thanks for the link.

As for comparing the sensors/hardware on the 2x cars im using ETKA but this does not show a 2001 A4 1.8T with APU engine 8E chassi? i can visually check my mates APU car but not until the weekend and i wanted to hav a go at flashing before then.

I wonder if my friends car has had an engine change? he's only owned it a few months and has no history of such work on the car, the only 1.8T in ETKA with APU is 8D chassis, i also have his VIN number (WAUZZZ8EZ.. .. .. .. ..) entered into ETKA and still dosnt show an APU engine?

any ideas on this? because i would like to compare part numbers before flashing.

Thanks guys.

This is because 8E0906018B ECU isn't suited for APU-engine. It's for AVJ.
APU use ECU with 400BB flash. narrow-band lambda sensor before cat and fuel rail with return line.

How you identified engine type? Based on "APU" symbols on the engine head?
Than i think somebody changed head on engine in the past...

Hi Gremlin,
Thanks for your input very intresting:) the APU code has been taken from the head so now we need to look at the code on the engine and hope its an AVJ which i think its going to be.

Also your right about the fuel return on the APU which my mates has but has been blocked off because as we know the AVJ has the return on the fuel filter.

Well im going to flash my car anyway, i hav a backup of the original if it dosnt work.

Thanks to all for your help very much appreciated:) ill upload both files shortly to relevant sections.

Well it worked!!! the power is a lot stronger now and i can actually hear the DV working like it should:)

I used the galletto 1260 i had and worked brilliantly through the OBD port, the thing that nearly messed it up though was the rad fan kicked in while flashing the so i just disconnected under the bonnet, i thought this would of upset the flashing with voltage drops etc.. but it was fine.

Checked with VAGCOM for DTC's and its all clear.

Thanks everyone, ive got to say this is the most friendly/helpfull forum i have ever been on. Your a credit to the hobby ECU Flashers world wide:)

Glad to hear everything worked out. Any reason you used Galletto instead of the NefMoto flasher?
