Hi Everyone - If anyone was following the "Why higher KFMIRL vs LDRXN?" thread from earlier in the week, one poster took the stock m-box and overwrote his LDRXN without making any other changes.  He went out and did logs, finding not that great results.  I commented that I think his boost PID wasn't setup correctly.  This got me thinking, maybe mine isn't setup either.  So how do we set them up?  Interpolate the RS4 maps!  DING DING DING

I went ahead and did this, am finishing up a list of maps to change, and need to say that I'm SHOCKED by how much better the car drives after these modifications.  If anyone wants to restore a stock-like feel or wants to revert the Stage 3 tuning back to a baseline, I'm quite confident Audi's map were very well designed.  The more I switch to their mappings, the happier I feel about part-throttle drive-ability.  Full throttle's another story, and I won't even pretend to understand much about it.  What I do know is that using the RS4 maps and interpolating them onto the S4 axis + tables works wonders.

I'll post the maps in a bit here...

OK here we go.  Use the LDRXN from the previous thread.
Update all of the PID tables in this list.  Also update KFMIRL and KFMIOP.
Don't forget to check your overboost table and maximum pressure ratio tables.  Most people max these out anyways.

Also, I'm not your tuner.  Don't look at me if this doesn't do what you want.  Smiley

I am actually moving everything map by map from 551F to 551G.
My RS4 has 551K, but I am temporarily using 551F on it, because I CBA to find all the maps in 551K.

The reason for 551G is that it has the best map pack available, so I am just going to work off of that.

Yup. My K04 tune has PID maps very similar to the rs4 maps.

The most important ones are LDRXN (obviously) and KFLDRL .. which is more a matter of wastegate behavior than compressor characteristics (that I can tell), and the K04 wastegate seems to act quite differently from the K03 wastegate.

Also, many people are running tightened waste gate, which also completely messes the whole PID up.


KFLDIMX also needs to be tailored to taste, the k03 KFLDIMX definitely wont work for non-k03s

Nyet when you say "tightened" do you mean with additional preload on the control rod?

Increased cracking pressure. mine doesn't really open until 8-9psi (vs 6-7psi on k03 iirc)

I don't mean to thread hijack, but I prefer the boost delivery of a "tightened" or "cranked" wastegate at WOT.  The spool is much faster and occurs much sooner.  This is especially useful on a K04 1.8T by widening the mid-range power, since there is almost none up top.  But you're absolutely right, at part throttle, you're left with this on/off boost delivery.  Isn't this just over-compensation by the PID when manipulating the wastegate?  Couldn't you modify some PID maps to accept the new position of the gate lever on the actuator shaft?

I'm not convinced it helps spool on either K03 or K04s... the wastegate demonstrably stays completely closed during spool... but it does allow you to run >23 psi to redline.. not that that is that great either, considering the compressor map for K04s.

IMO there is no benefit to "cranked" wastegates on k04s.

Uh, yeah, adding preload to the control rod is really not the greatest of ideas.

I also can't think of any way it would assist in spooling.

When comparing snowtroopers RS4 M-box file to a standard Mbox file, KFMLDMX and KFMLDMN have both been changed.  Not sure if you are planning to include them, or what they even mean.  Just thought I'd throw them out there.
