I have a 1.8t AWD GTI with the 06A 906 032 CL ECU and I would like to play around with it such as clone it so I still have the original just in case I mess something up. I was wondering if anyone knows if the "CM" (Auto trans) ECU would compatible as far as hardware is concerned since it the software portion will be flashed? Or if I will need one with an identical part number. Im just looking for any compatible ECU since it seems easier to find all other ECUs except the CL for a good price. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

When looking for a compatible ECU, try to match all of the hardware in the car: engine type, drive by wire or cable, etc.

ECUs have different software based on the transmission, but not different hardware. An ECU from an automatic should work with a manual and vice versa.

Also, if you find an ECU you think may work, try googling the part number to find out what car it came in, and what if anything in the original car it came from is different from yours.

Thank you just what I was hoping to hear. The only difference between the CL and CM is the transmission its the exact same engine code so that shouldn't be too hard to find. Here is a list of ECU codes that I found on PassatWorld hope it is of some use to others with a similar issue

You are stock with that ECU because your ECU is narrowband.
The rest of the 1.8T ECU's for the MKIV are wideband.

Hello, I was hoping for some help, my ecu number is not on the list, I have a 99 passat, 2.8L and I think the ecu has to be replaced. I've been searching all over the nets and can't really find anything that has been a pinpoint on it. 4D0997551EX is the number, finding the exact match is a bit difficult, I did find a ecu that is coming off a 2000 passat with a 3.0L. From what I've seen of the 1.8 saying that they can work with the 2.8's. Was wondering if vice versa will work with the 2.8 and 3.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Grin

i have a stage 1 with immo off 06A 906 032 DL ecu (AWW) from my old car. could i put it in place of a 06A 906 032 SM (AMB) (my buddies car) and expect things to work properly? i have read about 6th speed cruise control might not work properly, but asides from that should i be ok to drop it in his car?

Injectors are wrong, fueling in gerneral 8s wrong (static 4 bar vs pressure on rise / return vs returnless fueling) cooli g fan module is not the same. The b6 has a electric thermostat. Turbo dynamics are not the same pid will not be the same.

Ok i makes sense the 06A 906 032 DL is from the AWW family, but how about my flashed  06A 906 032 SM replacing a 06A 906 032 LP (both AMB's) im just trying to understand the interchangeability. I have read about small things like cruise control with a 5 speed 06a ECU not working right in a 6 speed car, but other then that are they generally interchangeable when in same engine family?

Today I flashed a 06A 906 032 DL (AWW) file over a 06A 906 032 LP ecu (AWP) (and did immo off 95040) vagcom shows a DL box on the bench. Does this mean the ecu is now properly suited for a AWW, i have been told the only difference is the information on flash and 95040 can someone clear that up for me?

All 1.8t mk4 ecus (besides 200 awd) are 100% the same hardware wise.
