Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm enbarking on a MK1 TT fast road/track day project.

After doing some reading it looks as if the only way to flash a ME7.x ECU is in Boot Mode.

Firstly is this correct?

Secondly is there a way of removing the Boot Mode requirement so the ECU can be Flashed without having to remove it from the car each time IE via the ODBII port?

Thanks

Me7.5 can be flashed over obd using the correct flashing tool.

In some cases with 29f400 chip inside and with some tools you might need to disconnect the cluster fuse in order for it to work(Fuse 11).

A genuine mpps or a cmd flash works fine with both 29f400 and 29f800 me7.5 based ecus.

Out of curiosity, where did you get this information from? I'd like to correct it if possible.

The OBD tuning website states so  - https://wiki.obdtuning.de/index.php?title=Bosch_ME_7.5_(Audi) - , but its bullshit I am pretty sure. I have an ME7.5 and I read it with fine with MPPS v16 , and prolly will be able to flash it too, will report back in a few days when I get to it.

I have an ME7.5 ECU for my passat, only issue I had was when you read it , it would leave you with the p602/p1681 code. All i did was reflash the good read to the ecu and all was good. Never had an issue writing to ecu via obd. And i used nefmoto flasher and ft232 chip cable.

Sorry to hijack. But I saw 7.x in the title :-)
I have a me7.1.1 in a 2004 Touareg.
I want to clone my ecu to a spare one.
Is the boot mode required or can I use a soft to do it via obd.
I already extracted the eeprom with vag commander and I have the skc pin.

In my opinion, you should have boot mode no matter what. Just in case something goes wrong, it will happen at some point.

What I mean is do I have to open the spare ecu to flash it or is it possible to flash it without opening it. I haven't done this before and I'm still looking for a spare ecu. I understand boot mode means opening the ecu. And I understand I will have to open it if it I brick it  or if it does not work as expected. But is it at least possible to give it a shot just over odb?

Yes you should be able to flash the "flash" over obd. Don't try to flash the eeprom over obd. Either adapt it or open it up.

Thanks for the info. What do you mean by adapt or open? I haven't done any flashing before so bear with me

If you have VCDS you can adapt the new ecu to the car, make sure its the same part number(s). OR you can bootmode your original to get the flash and eeprom and just flash both over to the new ecu, then your done. If you chose that route flash the eeprom, then flash the "flash". Pop it in the car and there you go.

The vcds option is good but I can't find the exact same ecu. I found the same part number but the two letters at the end are different. Not sur the letters have any importance for this ecu. I created a thread here about this question here:

Decided to go for the same part number but not the same engine and software version.
Mine is Address 022906032BE    HW:  MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G   0008 Engine AZZ
I will be buying 022906032BE    HW:  MOTRONIC ME7.1.1G   0007 Engine BPG

So All I need to do is: use my ftdi cable to read the ecu over obd port.
Use the bench me7 odb harness I'm making to write the flash eeprom to the spare ecu.
Plug the spare ecu in the car to test and start the car.
Am I thinking this right?

Take original out --> Get a read of the original flash via Galletto --> Get a read of original eeprom via me7_95040.exe (You will have to boot mode it for both flash & eeprom)
Verify they're good reads.
Repeat with the spare starting with writing the eeprom first.

Link to buy a Galletto Cable 15 Bucks--> https://www.ebay.com/itm/EOBD-OBD2-Galletto-1260-ECU-Chip-Tuning-Interface-Car-Program-Diagnostic-Cable/162394545432?epid=912307332&hash=item25cf781d18:g:xTEAAOSwax5YoAIj

There is a way to make your ftdi cable work for boot mode, but imo just buy the Galletto cable.

Edit: Make sure you back up the spare as well. Forgot to add that.

I understand 'boot mode it' as plug it in the bench harness with bootmode pins and setup. It's not like opening it unless something goes wrong? And there is really no way of getting the content via obd on the car from the original ecu?
Thanks for the link. The cable I have is pretty reliable and the ftdi chip is genuine. It's even more expensive than the galletto cable but I'll get one just in case.
Thanks a lot for the help.
Any experience with Kessy cloning if I might ask for help in the future?
I intend to have cloned modules in case the car starts acting up. The touareg is reliable but I want to be on the safe side. plus spare parts are available on ebay.
