Gents, I had an extra ECU I was planning on using for MPPS/winOLS/TunerPro experimentation. The one that's in my car is tuned by yours truly with Eurodyne MAESTRO. Anyways... When attempting to open the casing on the spare ECU I screwed it up. I let the screwdriver slide in too far and ripped some connections from one of the chips. I know, I know..... Anyways, I am going to purchase another spare ECU, but would eventually want it to be compatible with the one in my car in case something happens to the one in the car or for whatever reason. I am under the impression that in order to make another ECU work it has to be the exact same PN, SW#, and HW#... I am not exactly sure which numbers on the label to compare. Is this correct? Can I just back-up my current ECU on the car now and if something happens to it, load that file onto the spare ecu (pending the same PN,HW, & SW #'s)?? I have since opened two more ECU's and I got the hang of it now, but they are not even the same PN as mine, so again, I would like to have one that would eventually be compatible with the one in my car. Can someone please explain/advise/direct? If i understand correctly: the 1P0907115AD is the PN, the 0028 is the SW#, and the HW19 is the HW#, right?? And all 3 of these numbers need to be the same as the one presently in my car?? |

No, you can't just copy software on MED17.
If your skill level is what you describe, then you can *try* to find an ECU with the same software and part number, and have it coded by the dealer.
Or buy a new ECU at the dealer.

I have an MPPS v18, Galletto 7 v54, winOLS, VCDS.. I was under the impression that there were other options for a replacement ECU than going to the dealer to have it coded.. Is that really the only way?

Buy one with the same numbers. Remove the immobilizer. |

when you say the same numbers what do you mean? Mine is a 1k0907115AM. When I read my ECU, it says the ECU PN is: 1K0907115AM, the ECU SW is 1037502028, the ECU HW is 0261504775. None of of those numbers seem to have the same format as any number displayed on the ECU sticker (except the PN, which the member in the post above stated wasn't the PN, but the SW number). So what numbers need to be the same? Do all the numbers on the ECU sticker need to match? Or do the numbers pulled when reading the ECU need to match? If someone could please clarify...

Look at the sticker on your ecu, it will show both software partnr and hardware partnr.
Then buy same ecu from Ebay and make it immo off. Easiest solution.
It is possible to copy immo data from orig ecu to donor ecu, but requires special tools and skills.

If you find a part with HW 1P0 907 115 G MED17.5 HW H18 then you should be fine.
The software version (1P0 907 115 AD) doesn't matter, you can flash it to any version you like, either with SGO or in bootmode.
