In the process of swapping a 24v into a b3 passat; obviously the IMMO is an issue. ECM has been to two separate "specialists" to get the immo flashed off EEPROM, first shop "couldnt communicate", the second left me with IMMO off (pulled EEPROM data with UPA-USB and chip clip, changed immo bytes, charged me $100 and took off leaving a p1640 internal EEPROM error fault). Needless to say, i believe I've gained enough knowledge to attempt this myself, but from what ive read the 5p083c seems to be problematic unless soldered and a chip burner used to read/write.
ECU is a 022 906 032CS from a mk4 24v, i believe the EEPROM chip to be 5p083c (printed on 8 pin chip)

Ive got a bench harness made, HEX CAN genuine ross tech cable with VCP driver installed (from ross tech), fully aware how to get it in bootmode, and argdubs tool. Can any of the guru's chime in as to weather the ArgDub tool is worth a shot, or if i should just splurge on an EEPROM burner (and if so, which ones have worked for you guys).

Much appreciated

Ended up going with a burner and pulled the bin; i agree the tool is phenomenal, just had too many auxiliary component issues with what i was using.
