I have a 2000 1.8t A4 and I've installed a supposedly stock ECU from a 2001 A4 ecu numbers end in 018P IIRC. anyway I opened the ECU and noticed
I have the 29F800B memory, so I figured I could use the S4 memory file that is included in the software.
I can't get it to read the flash...
I'm not sure if I need to write  my own flash memory location file or not.

anyone have any ideas?
BTW the ecu was flashed at some point because now my car hauls ass about 15psi of boost...
thanks
Andre

See Tony's last post here ( http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=145.90 ), this is the reason why you can't read flash.

018p is originally a 512kb ecu (and stock to your 2000 a4). so if you have a 1 meg flash then the ecu itself is not from a 2001, only the flash.

edit: are you sure its an 800bb flash and not a 400bb flash? it just seems unlikely that someone would have soldered an 800bb in to your ecu.

The guy that sold it to me said it was from a 2001 A4 BDW, I opened it up and looked at the Eeprom, pretty certain it was 800B chip.
I will open it up again an verify. The factory eeprom has not been tampered with..

Yeah he told me it was stock also!! I'll take a peek inside and see what the hell, it is a different version of software than the box that was on my car, 006 vs 008 IIRC

Andre,

You said "BTW the ecu was flashed at some point because now my car hauls ass about 15psi of boost...", if this is the case, there might be some type of read/write protection on it. Meaning you should be succesful trying this in boot mode...

Anyhow, this is the case with my GIAC tune. I want to make sure that I am more than comfortable before I venture into hardware type proceedures as I have zero experience at this... Even if this is supposed to be a very basic one.

 Sad

Please post a log file or tell me what the program said when it could not read the flash. If it said "ServiceNotSupported" then the ability to read the ECU or the diagnostic port has been disabled, and you will need to use a tool that can do boot mode like Galletto to read it.

Tony,
this is what I got:

Reading ECU Info.
Switching to KWP2000 session
Switching to KWP1281 session
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008
KWP1281 connect info: 4B0906018P  1.8L R4/5VT     G   0008

then nothing else-seems like the program hung up and I had to kill it via task manager in Vista Home Edition. Once I killed it I used
VCDS-Lite to read the regular stuff to make sure the cable was working etc.

Regards

Please download the latest version of the NefMoto Flasher, which is version 1.4.2.2. In this version I added some more special cases when connecting that will hopefully solve your problem.

If it still does not work, please attach the log file. There is now a menu option in the program to open the log file.
