aftermarket vs 710N
« on: November 06, 2019, 11:14:40 PM »
my 01 s4 came with some aluminum dv's(stock style full recirc) and was wondering if it is just better to run stock dv's?
car is tuned with modified nvr 2++ file. (lowered boost and timing a bit)

aftermarket doesn't' provide any benefit.
But as long as they are functioning properly, no need to go stock either.

Lighter piston on the 710N actually provides better response.
Also, the Forge 007 has a tendency to seize up if you do not grease it.
IMO stock is best (710P actually), just replace every 5 years or so. They cost nothing anyway.

Stock plastic "Schubumluftventile" have a membrane inside them,
not an aluminium piston with an O-Ring, which as prj said needs to be lubricated often.
Also you dont have to fiddle around with different springs and maybe even have to compress them to have the characteristic you like,
had to this on supercharged low boost once.

My APR dv had a reinforced silicone diaphragm in it. It was for sure a heavier piston (aluminum center puck) than the 710 but it didn't require greasing. It was bling. Felt no difference.
I switched to a 2.0 tfsi eDV recently on my modified setup (for pneumatic plumbing cleanliness and one less leak spot/rubber hose in the mix) and that caused all sorts of tuning issues i have yet to figure out.
It did however work nicely back when my car wasn't as modified.
Now wether it had faster response, unsure. But i knew exactly when it was open and when it wasn't which was nice. I could also hold it open during cruise conditions for fuel economy.
