Very likely it's FT232RL counterfeit chip.
Just ask google about "ft232r fake".
You can check chip quality using ftester program.

So what we're saying here is Vagcom is a cheap imitation for OEM VAG. FT232 china made an even cheaper imitation of Vagcom and now china are making an even cheaper imitation of the FT232 chip? Hmmm Sounds like fun.

indeed those are fake ftdi chips, they wont work with anything except the program they were supplied with ( vcds ). Get a real FTDI cable, ask the seller if in doubt.
