does anyone know where the fault lies in a "blown" bdm port?

ive followed traces, poked around with a multimeter, and even swapped a few resistors but was never able to revive the port.
im thinking the circuit in the cpu is blown. can anyone confirm this?
if this was the case the only "fix" would be a cpu transplant. which doesnt seem so hard. Wink

any insight is much appreciated.

Depends on the type of CPU but, I/O buffers and/or clamp diodes inside CPU can be destroyed. I'm talking out of experience here Wink

so the only way to make bdm functional again is to replace cpu, yes?

Yes. Maybe if you are lucky your ecu have external buffers and you can change them. I have never seen that though.

well that ecu was already permanently fried/dead so i just used a hot air gun. but i was going to do it as a service or for me personally i would use my ir achi 6000.
