I got an Passat 1.8i with enginecode ADR.
Something is wrong with the ignition system.
No spark on cylinder 1 and 4.
The engine has a new coil pack, sparkplugs, ignition leads.

I suspect the ECU is somehow the problem.
Is it some IC chip on the circuitboard that has fried?
The ECU is M3.8.2, so no luck read and write through OBD.
(ADR ecu: 8D0 907 558 F)

Can I use an M3.8.3 AGU ECU that is flashable through OBD on an 1.8i N/A ADR engine?
Do I need to repin stuff also?

But somehow I also need to retrieve/copy the flash and eeprom from the dead ADR ecu.

I got no skills and tools to desolder chips from the dead ECU.

when you adapt or disable the immo you can use the m3.8.3 ecu plug and play, its a common swap because you can flash it over obd

Adapt or disable the immo on the M3.8.3 ecu, is it possible on the bench?
I got tools for bench flashing and stuff, using it for ME7.5 ecus.
But I have no clue with older M3.8.3 stuff.

And somehow I need to get 1.8i ADR .bin file/firmware so I can flash it on the AGU ECU.
Because original the AGU ECU is for turbo engine.

Hi, you can try to open the ecu and measure the Pull-up Resistors for the ignition. i attached top and bot pic and marked them red. On top and bot are 2 resistors in parallel, you should measure around 107 Ohms for a pack. if they are ok the ic marked green may need your attention

Thanks for the pictures on the components, very informative. I shall test it.

How can I determine which ecus are M3.8.3 and flashable?
What ECU numbers should I look for?
I'm trying to source and ecu from an junkyard.

Confusing, what I have read. 8D0 907 558 X Ecu's might be M5.92, and are flashable.

The thing is, how to adapt/remove the immo on such ECU?

Wasn't that easy. Found a list over flashable ecu's.

My original ecu is 558F and my spare ecu is 558E, both seems to be M3.8.2 (non-flashable)

Is it possible to crossflash 8D0907558F 1.8i ADR non-turbo firmware to a 06A906018GB AGU 1.8t turbo ecu?

Nice! Should work. Found an ecu with that number to buy

Now I need to figure out the immo stuff.
Maybe a virgin immo-file is available?
Adapt SKC/PIN with VCDS?

I shall test that immo-application that was linked in this thread.

this should help:
https://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/immobilizer2.html
they claim no pin is needed, just adapt the new ecu to the cluster

I shall test that with vag-com when I get the new ecu.
I hope it solves the ignition problem.

So in theory, I should only need a new, working 1.8i ADR ecu. Plug it in. Then use vag-com and adapt the new ecu to the cluster and so on?
No PIN/SKC needed.

Really no need to even flash the new ecu with the old ADR firmware from the halfdead original ecu.

yes if your cluster is immo2. Rosstech describes how to find out if its immo2 or 3

a USA aeg ECU is the same thing. 98 aeg has no immo
