Hi All, not sure if this is the right subforum, my question / request has more parts... Octavia mk1 1.6 75kw BFQ 2005, ecu p/n 06A 906 033 DM I drive this daily, I know its a "baby" engine, but I think there could be a few mods to make it nicer to use... I'm an amateur, I don't own any paid tuning software but I understand electronics well and I believe I know the basics of ecu modifications. I have played with 1.8T ME7.5 previously, that's a really neat ecu with lots of resources and free software. In contrary the Simos3.3 is a black box for non-privileged people. My main concern is the strongly non-linear torque vs pedal position dependence, its very sharp at the beginning and mostly nothing happens in the majority of the position range. If someone could localize the pedal map that would be great, I would modify it and then I'd need a checksum update. I have no problem with a small financial compensation. A "stage 2" tune ( ) would be an improvement of the drive-by-wire throttle lag. I don't know how to do this so I would gladly pay someone to do it. Of course a bit of extra torque would be cool, but that would really be just a bonus for me. Attached is a binary file I dumped from the flash (AM29F400B). Hope this kind of post is acceptable here, I am open for discussions and do not expect an "instant solution". If this is not the right post here feel free to delete it. Thanks in advance, Jan

If its not DI engine - lag will stay. If it is not forced inducion engine - you may not have huge success modifying its behavior.

Its not DI engine, but the 1.8T is neither and it has much lower throttle lag (not talking about turbo lag now). I believe its an emissions control thing. You can hear the lag from when you press the accelerator to the time the throttle opens (short "sh" noise). Its a naturally aspirated engine, thats why I put the torque tuning as a last thing, I don't require it and do not expect substantial gains (but I know about 10 % is possible). However the most sensible "tuning" for me would be the pedal/throttle remap which I believe is perfectly possible, its just a matter of finding the map. I have done this on a 1.8T as well.

Your read file is corrupted ! Anyway even if you wili read it correct the binary dump taken direct from desoldered flash chip is in Siemens bit-swapped format. It must be decoded before to search and edit any calibration maps.

OK, thanks... I guess I can't do much more, I re-read the chip to verify the file. I have no idea how to decode it either, so I guess Ill just put it back and let it be. Edit: Is there a possibility to read data in correct format from the whole ECU using an MPPS cable?

this is a working file, but it needs to be decoded as well. WinOLS provides a proper decoding plugin with cs correction

Thanks a lot. I just got a working WinOLS 2.24, I'm trying to get my head around it... Just a little note, my ECU is the older variant 5WP40 (not 5WP44), does this change anything? I was just quickly browsing through the imported file and found some maps look "normal" but other times there are alternating high/low or high/zero values. Hopefully Ill have some damos files soon, but not sure if I will be able to move anywhere. I am just trying to improve my car a bit, not really looking into making money on this...

this WinOLS version should be fine for your private challenge. Just take the working file to get to know WinOLS and for finding/tweaking maps. Meanwhile, I'm sure, you'll have managed to read a proper file from your ori ecu. I would focus on ignition maps, often the (only) way for n/a engines (without VVT) finding some (more) torque.

Still trying to import your working file, OLS asks if I want to apply line swapping for simos 3, I click yes. But still many of the maps look like this (see attachement). I guess its badly imported? I have no idea how to do it better...

no, just fine "restart background map search" and WinOLS will show you the most apparent maps try to get a proper/similar damos and learn how to use it with WinOLS. There are quite a lot tutorials in the net, now it's up to you

Sadly the damos for this ecu was not included in the pack I got. I cannot find any definitions anywhere for this ecu. I know its a long shot but does anyone happen to have any sort of definition file for this? I've already spent tens of hours with this impenetrably armored thing, don't want to give up but probably will, all this for a little NA engine

Finally managed to get a proper readout of the flash. Could anyone please locate the pedal mapping? Thanks in advance.

Could this be the pedal map (driver demand)? There are 2 similar maps side by side, not sure why. They are 16x12 16bit.

Just tried modifying it, looks like it has a lot to do with pedal mapping, but seems to behave a bit weird, non-exact, like it is not a direct relationship of request torque on pedal position and RPM. Maybe there is another map interfering, if anyone could comment it would make things a lot easier. Otherwise it is a hit-and-miss process...
