Dumb question but I can't find a solid answer anywhere. I'm working on an '07 GTI that was poorly tuned two or three owners ago. The read was protected (MPPS can ECUID but errors out when trying to read with 'Sub Or Function Not Supported or Invalid Format'). So I successfully flashed a matching stock bin to open the door and get started (taking care to ignore 0~6FFF), The car starts and runs just fine (albeit stock), and I now have read and write access over the OBD port.

The ECU is 1K0907115H, which isn't very well defined anywhere. I'm wondering if its safe to flash a similar bin, say 1K0907115S, which is very well defined. I really only have experience with Volvo ME7, which are very highly cross-flashable, but I know very little about VAG and just want to make sure before I go and brick something. Otherwise I'll have to define this bin myself, which I'm good at but it's incredibly time consuming.

Thanks in advance, once I finish with this car I'll scurry back to the Volvo scene where I belong

Post the full ID.

You're only posting the software number, but not version, so it is hard to say anything.

I don't have BDM, only MPPSv18. Not really set up for VW stuff as I'm mainly a volvo guy, just doing this one car as a favor

Your VAG SW is 1K0907115H 0030.

Post your stock file.

There is an update 1K0907115H 0040 and for that there is a full def.

Also you do not need to do anything to the area below 0x20000 because it's not OBD writable anyway.

Ehh screw it you moose shagger.

Attached 0040 binary for you to flash (it's a direct OEM upgrade) and the A2L.
No point to run the older one, there's A2L for that too though.

You can use my logger to log it with your DiCE tool, or I think elias on here made some kind of free tool, but probably needs messing around to make it work.

Yeah it's also available as sgo and can be unpacked all the same, and I had the A2L for that...
But I recommend running the latest version, most likely some kind of bugs were fixed there.
