I am brand new to nefmoto and VW as a whole. I pulled a 2001 vw beetle 1.8t AWV 5 speed manual out of barn where it had been sitting for 12 years and have been working on it. I have read around the forum. I already had an ebay galletto 1260 cable with the FT232r chipset. I followed the "NefMoto Getting Started Guide," but am getting an error when trying to connect. Confirmed chip set with FTPROG, cable is installed on COM1, nefmoto recognizes my cable, have tried different Baud rates, restarting everything multiple times, connecting everything in multiple different order, deleting and reinstalling the drivers from the FTDI website, pulling fuses for my instrument cluster. I'm up for any ideas

I was under the impression that the blue kkl cables are the same exact chipset as galletto cables. I wanted to read while it was in the car still and not have to bother with boot mode. So you think my cable is the problem?

Its a shit cable

Okay. Would you be willing to explain how you determined that, and do you have a current link for a suggested cable or should I just pay the $200 and get a ross tech cable?

if a boss says it's a crap cable you can believe it.... there is an entire post with the different compatible cables. a blue kkl for 10 dollars from the Chinese will also do the trick no need to spend 200

Wasn't that I didn't believe it. I just wanted to know what to look for if I order another one and it still didn't work. I imagine you're referencing the "Cables that YOU, the members, have confirmed working! Post yours within" thread which I have already looked through and could not find a single active link for a current posting besides a guy who sold them himself in 2022 and his thread has a reply calling it a scam. I'll guess I'll just buy a handful of different blue kkl cables and return which ever ones don't work

Did your cable not actually come with software to test with? Try getting into the cluster with it using kw1281test see if that works....I personally have about 4 cables I purchased back in the day for backup, including a legit one from VagCom .Can't rely on one Chinese slave to make my cable for me, because...Well they're SLAVES! Grin  And relying on one ECU is not a good idea either.  Shit's pretty inexpensive nowadays compared to a new Beetle.
