For months now, it can take a minute for the forum to respond to a click and take me to the topic. It used to be lightning fast but now is not much fun to navigate. Anyone else got this problem?

I have wondered the same thing. My phone also consistently gets pissy about the certificate too   Huh

Is Nefmoto dying? Is this a temporary issue? Does anyone know anything about this?

It might be slowed down deliberately to stop mirrowing. Each time I look there are over 1000 guests logged in, every hour every day. That cant be for real ...

Also quite slow but quite inconsistent for me. Sometimes will time out entirely, other times just take 30s to get a reply, sometime instant. For the last however many months

I had this problem since 2024. Basically the forum is completely unusable for me. It's incredibly slow and timeouts on me multiple times an hour. Sometimes it can take 20+ refreshes to just load one post.

Yes, a very annoying problem, and I've had it for about a year.

Would love to help with reviving this forum with whoever is responsible for hosting/administrating it.
More then sure, that im not the first one wanting to help/speed it up, sooo there must be a communication bottleneck somehwere...

The website is hosted on US Amazon servers, the certificate expires on 31st July 2026.. We'll see what happens before that.
I have a feeling the website is hosted on a lower grade servers that are cheaper and theres too much traffic here. I think some anti-bot measures would be good. Also the servers being in US might have a little impact.

I've offered a few times to take over admin for the servers, but tony hasn't been willing to hand it over.

Not sure the root cause, could be DDoS related as well as flat out underprovisioning (or db needing optimization, etc).

The software itself is also about a decade out of date.

That could just be long lived cookies, it doesn't mean anything. We'd have to look at the traffic logs to see if its bots/DDoS etc.

Tony hasn't really offered any explanations, so i have no idea.

I really hope Tony will notice this and let this happen. Or maybe a whole migration to a newer modernized forum. This whole forum is a piece of history and knowledge that shouldn't be just let to rot.
I also think the db hasn't been touched in decade. I wonder how the server traffic looks like. Probably has to be overloaded on daily basis lol.

If he aint willing to hand it over even to you, then i aint got no chance.
Also, network traffic logs would be sweet indeed. This would help alot on painting the picture about whats really going on.
Constant ddos is a valid guess, but i wouldnt place my eggs in that basket.
I like markus's idea of the server being hosted on the cheaper ec2 - when it only has few cores and few gigs of ram then no wonders its slow as hell. DB optimization would probably be overkill tbh since this forum doesnt recieve that much traffic.
Some bot protection and maybe a pump in EC2 instance should make a quite noticable difference.
