So I've been searching the forums and have not really come up with a definite answer.

I see a lot of people tuning Mbox's and was wondering if the Mbox provides any direct advantages over the Abox?

And if it is at all benificial to switch from an Abox to a Mbox ecu?

It seem that to do the switch all you need to do is swap to a hitachi MAF and recode the cluster?

It's just easier as a community to consilidate to a common platform.

Alot of work is already done on the M box, definition files, RAM variable locations, custom code, etc...

You can keep the Bosch MAF and just transfer the MAF tables/offset.

As phila_dot said, you can just transfer the MAF tables -- there is even a stock M-box file uploaded to the forum which is switched to the Bosch MAF already,
but switching to a Hitachi MAF isn't that hard either. You can even get conversion cables from several places.
I've switched to an M-box tune from my D-box which was easy as flashing the file to it, so I did not have to do any cluster coding at all, but since my
car is an European model, I had to disable some EVAP and instrument cluster related stuff in the M-box code to avoid having DTCs about hardware in my car which it does
not have. (CLACINS and CLALDPE set to 0). You also get additional functionality out of an M-box like misfire detection.

You can also consider switching to an RS4 box which some people seem to be doing Smiley

Sup dude.  This is way easier than you think.
Set CLACINS=0, MLOFS=200, and MLHFM to the MLFHM from your a-box.

That's it.

I never understood this M-Box craze when there is a full G-Box damos available.
I mean if anything, use that IMO.

Wasn't G-box software a euro thing? (01 azb?) Wouldn't that require some emissions tuning to use in a US-spec car?

and for the rs4, what's the main draw? Better map resolution?

I am asking, humbly (not being a smartass).

You don't need to do anything with emissions, but you probably need to kill immo...

RS4 is just better software. No 8 bit load caps on the important map axes and an overall better calibration.
It's factory "Stage 3"... so if you are going K04 starting from there is a good idea.

For a stock car no point though.
