ddillenger - Can you please explain how this procedure is done or provide a link to the correct way to do this.  Let me tell you the problem I'm having and let's see if this is applicable.

I want to flash the RS4 bin onto my A6-box.  Infinkc boot mode flashed a M-box onto this A6 box and I have started the car with it, so I know for a fact that he did the correct IMMO-defeat at some point using boot mode.

Here's my problem.  I don't have a bench harness and frankly don't want to make one.   If I were to take the contents of this file and over-write the correct spots in the RS4-binary, would this allow me to flash the new "assembly hacked" de-immo-ed RS4 bin onto my M-box-running A6-ecu?

Please assist if this sounds correct.  (My car obv. doesn't have IMMO.)   Roll Eyes

Please forgive my ignorance:   http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=1168.0title=

I'm still not super clear on how this is done, but i'll continue reading.

Oh boy. This is going to be long.

You can bootmode a file onto an immo-equipped ecu without defeating the immobilizer. Just because he falshed an M-box doesn't mean it was defeated prior. You can't (with the tools provided here) flash an immo-equipped ecu via OBD unless it is in the car. This doesn't apply to bootmode. What year a6? 01-up had immo, while 00 did not. If you are unsure, did the ecu plug have to be modified to fit?

As for writing this file.

It must be done in bootmode. This bin is for a seperate eeprom in the ecu, not the main flash. There is no way to write it any other way (again, with the tools provided here). If you want to flash an rs4 file you will need to write this file to the 95040 IC, otherwise the car will start, but die immediately after.

I find bench flashing to be easier. I'll do it that way every chance I get, If you don't want to create a bench flashing setup you can always try to put the ecu in bootmode with it installed in the car, but you'll need a second person to turn the key on as you ground pin 24 of the flash chip (29f800bb). Then, just follow the immobilizer tutorial. There is an entire section devoted this particular situation.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Any chance I have to add to or improve upon the sticky to make things easier to understand is worthwhile.

OK.  Just rereading what you wrote.  This is actually a major PITA....

It really isn't that bad. Plus, it's invaluable experience getting into bootmode Smiley

Q:  Let's say I do the boot-mode thing once and flash this file to fully de-IMMO the 512-byte EEPROM.
I then write my RS4 tune.  My car now starts.  Do I have to do this again when I reflash an updated RS4-based tune?  Like every-time?  Or is it clean once it's been totally de-immo-ed properly the first time?

Never again. Once this file is on the ecu, you're good to go. No amount of flashing will necessitate re-writing this file.

On a somewhat related topic, would either of you know if you need to run an immo defeated RS4 EEROM to use the RS4 bin, or could I just flash an S4 EEPROM with the immo defeat and run the RS4 bin?  I know some people had issues with ECU coding when trying to run RS4 bin on S4 EEPROM.

FWIW I havent had to go into boot mode to overwrite an A6 file or an immobilized S4 file

Dave this switch could help you go into boot mode so you dont need an extra set of hands every time you want to boot mode it Smiley

If you want to run an rs4 bin (or any bin that was originally used in an immobilizer equipped car) you will have to bootmode an immo-defeated 95040 (24c02, 5p08c3) bin to the eeprom prior to doing so. Failing this, you will not be able to reflash with nefmoto until you do so.

bootmode

Or write using a burner and test clip.  Potentially easier if bootmode escapes you, e.g. if you are dealing with a 7.1.1.
