So I am trying to swap in a spare ECU into my 2004 D3 A8 to do a little playing with it.

I obtained both SKC's from the ECU's but run into problems when I go into adaptation channel 50 to enter the skc from the old ECU. It says that channel 50 is not available. I checked it without first logging in with the SKC code and it said security code is needed, so I know that it is partially working. The "new used" ecu does accept the SKC code so I know that it is correct.

My instrument cluster says SAFE when I install the used ECU. This is a little different as I also have the KESSEY module which does the immobilizer so it's not part of the cluster.

I have tried both IMMO 3 and IMMO 4 procedures listed from ross-tech aka vagcom but they are pretty much the same and both need the old ECU skc to be entered into adaptation channel 50.

Any one else run into this?

Read the eeprom from your ecu, copy the contents into the new ecu. Done deal.

Thanks, I was thinking that may be another solution, that or disabling immo altogether.

Any idea what eeprom chip it may be? It's ME7.1.1 and flash is 800BB

It'll be an SOIC-8, likely a 95160.

Thanks guys, i'm guessing i'll have to open up the ecu's again and take a peak?

Will the UPA-USB be able to read it?

Any way to disable immo without doing this?

BTW I have both eeprom dumps and the skc's also correspond. I wish I had a way to easily flash them LOL

Interestingly enough my current working ecu has a 5 digit SKC and that's without any leading zeros.
I thought for sure it was wrong and used a couple of different tools to pull it out, and then I read the dump and sure enough it is 5 digits once you flip bytes 32 and 33 and convert it from hex to dec. Odd huh?

And the ECU I am using as my spare has a 3 digit SKC LOL, so two leading zeros for it.

I have a few clones that can read it like vag k+can 2.5 and vag dash can. I wouldn't trust them to write it though as they are pretty crappy. I may give ArgDub's ME7_95040 tool a shot, I was reading all 20 pages of his post last night and I didn't realize that he has modified it for other chip types. My is actually 1024 bytes instead of the 95040's 512.

Hey Guys,

Same issue here: Trying to swap ecu's to correct old ecu issue, no need to start new thread (hopefully Wink

I'm working on my friends B5 Passat 2.8. I bought a replacement ECU 01 Audi A6 2.8(3B0 907 551 BS ME7.1 0001) identical to the stock ECU. I've tried to read as many posts on this board as well as others, thought no board even comes close to this one! So here's some quick questions and what I think I know.

1. I want to swap ECU's and I need the SKC from the cluster and from the ECU in order to do an adaptation for Immo purposes and keys....to get the car up and running.

2. I need Vag Tacho or Vag commander to read both the cluster and ECU.

3. Looks like I can do it thru the OBD port and a strong 12v supply.

Questions:

1. Do I need VAG COM from Ross tech to do the adaptation as well? (it seems I don't) and if so, will the basic be sufficient?.

2. Vag Tacho varies in price depending on who you get it from, seems version 2.5 is the one to get, does it matter who I get it from or avoid?

3. Vag commander has a few different flavors as well Vag k+can 1.4, 5.5, 3.6....any suggestions on these?

4. Super Vag K+can 4.8 seems to be all in one (as they say, may be too good to be true)  Any thoughts?

5. Will the new ECU "brick" once I install it to read the pin (just turning power on).

6. Am I better off doing an Immo defeat on the old ECU, or is it the cluster that it's done on or both?

Any help/ suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks....Ray
