ive seen this and have used the tool, But it does not do checksums for me. What i am asking is how i can calculate them manually and if there is a good primer avail online that shows you how.

Not to my ( limited ) knowledge.

There programs and plugins available For various programs, but all of them pay except the one above.

winOLS has em ( plugin, Alot of Extra cash for it ),
a gent on the forums here makes a plugin for Tunerpro
standalone program called ECUFix does it as well.

There is a program called Ultimo knocking about the forums which does correct checksums but I've never managed to get it to correct any of my bins.

Until Tony gets his checksum program out I'm using the MTX-Electronics plugin. Price is good and you can test compatibility before purchase. I had a brief email conversation before purchase and they were good to deal with.

Ultimo.exe does not work for ME7.

The MTX electronics tunerpro plugin is $25. Not free, but not a lot of money for a seamless plugin. Plus they're good people and answer email questions quickly.

Hi guys , I'm new to this, so is this plug-in necessary if your flashing you ecu with different tunes. I don't want to get stuck somewhere if I cant get my car to start cause the checksums are different?

Yes. You need some way of verifying and/or correcting checksums when modifying an ECU file.
