After reading many threads on this forum I noticed that some posters catagorize tunes. So everyone post up your opinions on what is a stg1 tune, stg2, stg3, etc.
Is a stg3 tuned file strictly named because of certain hardware changes? What is it that makes a stg2 tuned file into a stg3 tuned file? added timing, more boost, ..even more boost by going the 5120 route, big turbo?
I assume a stg1 tuned file would be for an engine that has little/no hardware changes.. like maybe some cat back exhaust or an easier breathing air filter?
What do you guys think?

Stage1: Tuned for completely stock car Stage2: Optomized for exhaust and other supporting mods Stage3: Tuned for different fueling and turbo
Stage3-: Same as stage3 but without fueling.

I figured he was asking what the stages meant to us. It seems people like to make new ones up as they go along

They are all fake posts. I paid someone $35 and a 6pack to give me the Karma.. How can you not tell?.......I don't even know what everyone's opinions are as far as states of tune....I think the world is gonna end tonight... but ya, had no idea "the stages" parameters are set in stone so to speak...didn't realize it was common knowledge nor that it was posted up somewhere these "set in stone" stage of tune definitions. Fact of the matter is Unitronic, APR, Giac, and Nuespeed ALL have different requirments and recomendations for each of their stg(x) tunes. Uni doesn't even offer a "stg3" persay, just a stg2+ and then into big turbo tunes. Apearently these big name tuner companies don't have enough or too many/much posts and karma because they show different from your jumped on the bandwagon opinion except APR's stg1 tune. Bottom line is, there isn't a set standard, which is why I asked for opinions. Why don't you post on a thread that you'll be of help to..

i personally think all those "stages" are nonsense. do you really need 1, 1+, 2, 2+, 3, 3-, 3+? lol.
i do pretty much agree with what daz said though as well.

people have asked me and I wasn't sure what to say and then it ends up being a 1 way convo for like 5mins and I get wierd looks. ..plus reading the threads on the forum. I agree that what daz posted seems most logical with the stg1 and 2, also least like a marketing ploy.

Why fueling in the stg 3?

Why fueling in the stg 3?
Common sense. Stock injectors are maxed at stage2 (stage 1 on B6 1.8's). A bigger turbo on stock fueling isn't optimal.

I hate being flipflopity on things I guess..it really just came to mind one day. I looked around where i could and ofcourse every tuner advertises thier tunes differently.

Different turbo=stage3 everytime for me.
I see why you said common sence. I was thinking since the k04 is offered as a stock part on some versions of the 1.8 that it might still be concidered a stg2 or 3- even though it might be a bigger turbo for a particular car model.
