Hi all,

First of all this is a very nice forum although I don't understand much of what is written lol. I'll get there though, I'm not a quitter Wink

Now,

I tried to build a bench harness for a spare edc15v ecu I bought for experimental purposes and I'm having trouble communicating with it - I'm sure I have done a silly mistake somewhere and require your help to proceed. I am familiar with standalone ecus but this is the first time playing around with an OEM. This is a totally different animal by the looks of it. I'm an engineer by trade but have nothing to do with ecus in terms of customer's work. Even the standalone tuning I'm doing is just for my own race cars. My job involves engine building and diesel fuel pump and injector remanufacture.

 Anyway, the ecu I'm talking about is out of a mk4 golf with an AGR engine (90bhp) and the part number is 038 906 012 K. Bare in mind that this is a used ecu I have no idea about.

I found some schematics in my manuals and on the net and made the following connections:

pin 16 ecu -> pin 7 obd
pins 4,5 ecu -> pins 4,5 obd -> negative on power supply
pins 2,37 ecu -> pin 16 obd -> positive on power supply

I use about 13V and 250mA on my power supply.

I have original VCDS tool and crap galletto.

When I power everything up the VCDS recognizes the connection but when I go into -engine- it will not connect and after some time it says "too many communication errors to continue".

I have no clue what I'm looking for or if what I did is correct. Please advice. Looking forward to make this thing work in order to do some experimenting.

Thanks,

21 views but no reply on this easy for you question  Shocked

Right, I found an edc15p and tried my harness and this one works therefore my harness is ok. I tried boot mode on the edc15v with galletto(not sure if that works) but still no joy. Does that mean that it is bricked? Is there an option to recover it other than taking the chip out?

Did the ecu test good prior to the bench flashing cable?
