Driving home the other day i noticed a foul smell, then my car started missing and shaking. I was only a few blocks from my house so I parked and started the diagnosis process. I pulled codes and got this 5 Faults Found:
17831 - Secondary Air Injection System; Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17819 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P1411 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
18010 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P1602 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16688 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P0304 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate

cleared the codes swapped coil 4 with 6 and it ran fine for about 10 mins then same idle issues so i pulled codes again and got this
2 Faults Found:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16688 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
P0304 - 35-00 - Please Register/Activate

i switched the icm wiring cleared the codes and nothing changed codes show the same i put in new plugs and a new coil again no change. i changed the ECT sensor still no change. let it sit overnight,
this morning it ran fine i took some logs, as soon as i parked the rough idle came back. i unplugged the maf with no change. i took my gas cap off no change. I'm stuck and need some help.

only other thing that might give some clues to someone with more knowledge than myself is when i click the readiness button on VCDS i get exhaust gas recirc: passed SAI failed oxygen sensor heating failed oxygen sensors failed catalyst heating passed catalytic converters failed.... please help me

delete the crappy icm's and upgrade to the fsi coilpacks

What engine? As suggested delete icm's and upgrade to fsi coils.

The conversions aren't all that... you could be inviting other problems, and there is anecdotal evidence that the FSI coils don't last much longer compared to proper OEM coils...

YMMV of course.

YMMV of course.

I agree. The only benefit that I've seen could easily be chalked up to the fact that the coils are new, not necessarily that they are different.

check compression if ok, swap fuel injectors next, looks like you already tried the icm, plugs, and coil?  if fuel injector doesnt change it. then pull the valve cover and check the cam lobes and lifters on cylinder 4 for unusual wear.  believe it or not i have seen bad cams on 2.7t on 3 different motors with misfires at idle.  1 exhaust valve was not opening.

The point of the conversion is to not pay 70 per coil after one goes bad, instead only about 20 bucks per tfsi coil. You also increase spark and you can increase the gap as well. You delete the ICM's and your left with a system that's more reliable and easier to troubleshoot.
