I am trying to help a buddy of mine get his Jetta back on the road. His ignition switch broke and he hacked a new one in, however afterward his car would start and then die after a few seconds. I immediately suspected it was the immobilizer and offered to scan his car. He has numerous immo related codes.
P1570 - Engine start blocked by immo 01128 - Immobilizer pickup coil (D2) 01176 - key signal too low 00849 - contact at ingnition switch unknown condition 01179 - incorrect key programming
He does not want to buy any more parts and asked if I could help. I have already cautioned him against full immo defeat, but he does not care and just wants his car back on the road.
I have pulled both the EEPROM and flash binaries already. The problem is that I cannot find any information on IMMO2 (almost positive it is). Everything I find is IMMO3 and is not applicable. Can anyone guide me through what I need to do to disable the immobilizer in this application?
I would upload the binaries, however I do not have access to the internet on my laptop at the moment.

IMMMO2/IMMO3 deactivation procedure is the same....the procedure to adapt them properly, is different.

did you use galletto to pull the binary off the mk4, or did you have any luck connecting with the nefmoto flasher?

This ECU is M5.9 type. No tools that read this ECU "on-board". You can read flash content using desolder technology only.

I was rushing and not really paying attention to what I was doing when I was messing with the car. Of the files I pulled from the car, none were from the ECU. The EEPROM bin I pulled was from the cluster and the bin I believed to be the flash is garbage. I was using VAG-Commander. I made another attempt yesterday and was not able to establish a programming session with the ECU using any software in my arsenal. Will a programmer and clip work with this ECU?

Yes. Only way to fix it. Grab an immo defeated dump and just flash immo chip.

Is the EEPROM dump from the cluster good for anything? Can I retrieve the SKC from this? Vag-Commander returned a three-digit login code from the immobilizer/cluster, but it didn't work when trying to login to the immobizer security access in VCDS. I tried it preceded by two zeros and one zero (i.e. 00xxx and 0xxx).

If you want to defeat it, why would you want the SKC?

Any updates with this? I have a friend with a 2k Golf that randomly gets the same codes. The "weak signal" code leads me to believe it may be a defective transponder in the key. The keyring was replaced by the dealership about 6 months ago I assume for the same problem. For now we just recoded the key to the cluster/immo and it seems to be working, but I don't expect it to last. Is there a way to permanently bypass immo 1 and 2? Is it the same eeprom modification as for immo 3?

Sometimes the Immo will trip if you have a bad battery and you will get random signal codes.
Is your battery in good condition?

I'm going to assume you mean the battery in the remote? I wasn't under the impression that the keyless entry battery had any effect on the immo transponder? I'm more familiar with immo 3 than 1-2 though. Thanks for the response!

You can also get the "weak signal" error if the pickup coil in the steering column is on its way out or the connection is dodgy.
