All - I have just replaced an ECU on a A4 which was losing contact with the throttle body.  Unfortunately, the previous owner of the vehicle was tampering with the vehicle using cheap VAG Chinese clone tools on the Bosch RB4 cluster.  It is now showing DEF, I suspect he has tried to change mileage not realising these clusters use heavy crypto.

I have attached a binary image of the 5P08 EEPROM in the original and faulty ME7.1.1 ECU.  I am making assumption that the mileage is also recorded here?  If so, can anyone please confirm what it is?

I need this information to remove the DEF message on the cluster to re-sync the two EEPROMs in the cluster.

Thanks

Looking at the dump again, I'm guessing mileage is not stored in the ME7.1.1 ECU.  If someone could confirm either way I would really appreciate it.

Mileage is stored in the cluster.  My understanding is the "DEF" message has to do with improper checksum on the cluster.

That's right, I need to know what original mileage was though to restore the cluster.  I thought maybe ECU would still hold original value.

Thanks, I've tried that website before.  I think the consensus is that it is a scam.  No one else ever gotten a modified dump back as far as I know.

The ECU EEPROM does not hold a copy of the mileage that I know of.

Thanks guys for the support.

I have an idea to try and rid of the DEF message, if successful I will report back.
