Newbie with VAGcom - Full Read failed
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:23:57 AM »
Brand newbie, so go easy on me!
Have original VAGcom KII-USB. Unchecked "Boot in intelligent mode".
Car is 2002 Audi Allroad manual.
ME7 29F800BB memory layout (was told that is the right one).
Current have custom stage 2 file
Nefmoto communicates.
Able to "Read ECU Info"
Able to "Read DTCs".
When running Full Read Flash, I get an error after about 3%.
Any suggestions what may be wrong?
I would like to install the stock file (and later be able to flash tune changes).
Certainly, I will not attempt (I don't have a spare ECU standing by) to write a file until I am at least able to READ.

Tony will most likely want you to post the log. Usually you're not able to read flashed (tuned) files through the OBD, which would have been my first guess as to why you have an issue. The fact that it even begins to read I think may rule this theory out though.

Ordered a cheap ebay adapter, worked right away. Not sure why the Rosstech does not work.

The other I tried to save the stock file of a 2004 Allroad 2.7T auto, using the blue ebay cable I successfully have used on my 2002 Allroad 2.7T manual.
It connected as expected, but the 'full read' failed after a few seconds.
Car did NOT start after that, VAGcom reported a 'incomplete read' or so.
Tried a second time, and this time read went through without a hitch and was able to save the stock file.
Note: IIRC, the 'erase DTC codes' came back with error as well.
Is there anything special on the 2004 Allroad that causes it to behave differently than my 2002 Allroad?

The Ross-Tech KII cables do not support true dumb mode pass through and that is why the read fails.
