Have you tried matching it up with either of the files posted on the second page by member "TTQS"? I did not try it myself, maybe you already have...

Hi.

The electronic parts catalogue, ETKA is telling me that the ECU with part number 8L0 906 018 M is for the APX engine. This part number was dropped on 01 May 2002 and is suggesting 8L0 997 018 DX as a replacement.

I only loaded up files for BAM and BFV 225 PS engine variants. I have no official source for the differences between the early APX and later BAM/BFV variants, but the biggest difference is EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) on the APX and no variable camshaft adjustment.

Sorry I can't be of further help.

You´re right.
APX -> BAM = 225PS
APX additionally has only one O2-Sensor precat, BAM/BFV equipped with two O2-Sensors (precat and after cat). APX fitted with narrow band O2 sensor precat, BAM/BFV fitted with wideband O2 sensor precat and narrow band after cat.
Additionally the turbo charger is a little bit different. APX uses originally the K04-020 or -022 and the BAM uses K04-023. The T/C is basically the same but the -023 is equipped with a EGT-probe which is also used in the ECU for fuel enrichment to cool down the engine at full load.
BVF is the 240PS variant (known as "Quattro Sport" - produced in limited numbers), only difference afaik is the raised boost pressure compared to the 225PS and some other things, non ecu related.
The ecu file of the APX is of course different, because there are a few more variables the BAM ECU has to handle.
The APX will be a little bit easier to modify if the hardware of the car was intensivly upgraded (e.g. bigger T/C , intercooler, bigger injectors, bigger MAF, stroker kit..) ;-)

BTW: is the name auf motronic (ME7.5/7.1?) also different like the read out differs between APX and BAM (512 vs 1024kb)?

Hi,

APX engine may work with BAM ECU?
Original(broken) ECU   8L0906018M (APX)
And new ECU            8N0906018H (BAM)

no,because BAM has two O2 sensors(wideband and narrow),camshaft adjuster and EGT probe

APX (512k) will not work in BAM (1024k) but i astimate that with minor tweaks of the ECU- Files it should be possible to get the BAM work in an APX. It´s not Plug and Play for sure.
Best way is to fit the BAM engine wiring loom and a K04-23 T/C to use the EGT sensor.
The post cat Hego has to be erased (it´s only to monitor the cat health status)
Only thing i´m not fully aware of is the VVT, if it can be erased also.
Or am i wrong?

It should be possible to set "VVT" to off by defining SY_NWS sumode = 0 (System constant: camshaft control: none, binary or continuously variable). See module ZWGRU 23.110 (Fundamental Ignition Angle):

http://www.nefariousmotorsports.com/wiki/index.php/ZWGRU_23.110_(Fundamental_Ignition_Angle)

Edit: er, except apparently system constants can't be changed according to ArgDub. See this post:
