Bootmode the eeprom from the ecu. That's the safest bet.

TT/Beetle MM clusters are a dangerous proposition, even with real tools sometimes.

Thank you, gents, for all the help thus far. I am glad I asked before doing something stupid and bricking my dash.

If I am understanding everything correctly here (excuse me if I don't make sense):
1. Bootmode the eeprom from the ecu with argdub's tool 7.5?
2. Read the SKC from the ecu under what fields?

Again, sorry for all the questions...it is making sense, though! :-)

Cheers!

Just a brain fart...what if I only use a clone VT to read the SKC from the dash. My intention was not on utilizing VT to program the immo, but just read the SKC. I was set on using VCDS to perform any type of programming.

Does that minimize my exposure of bricking the dash? Embarrassed

Clone VT is a pos, as a last resort maybe try reading, but I would do as dd suggested first.

I will do as ddillenger stated, thank you! One problem; what software do I use and how what fields do I read the SKC from?

Cheers!

What engine is in there? Maybe its easier to read the eprom from your ecu. Thats the same SKC i guess.

use this: http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=1168.0title=

Read should work in car without bootmode.
me7_95040.exe --OBD -p 3 -b 57600 -r readout.bin

Use a dumb KKL cable

711 does not use a 95040. (im assuming this is a 2.0l beetle btw).
