I often take my S4 on long road trips and I was thinking it'd be nice to have a "maximum fuel economy" tune I could load up for times like that. Obviously, staying out of boost is the best way to keep the fuel consumption in check, but what are some other things I should look at/tweak in order to make a fuel economy tune?

I'd like to still retain some power for passing and pulling hills, so I guess most of the attention for the tune would be with low-load conditions.

Any insights/ideas?

I missed that one, thanks. I'm assuming most of the talk regarding closed/open loop operation will directly apply to my car as well?

I'm using this kind of tune for a while but using it on a national road doesn't decrease fuel consumpion so much. It has though remarkable resoults in country roads when cruising at lower speeds such us 70-90 kmh. Try to increase your timing a bit and keep lambda at 1.10 - 1.14. Post the resaults. It would be interesting to see what happens i bigger engines than 1.8t.

IMO a taller 6th would probably help more than tweaking lambda..
