ok.  this might be an odd thing, but i like thinking outside the box, and heres what I'm thinking about doing.

I've got a 2008 mk5 2.5 with a ME7.1.1 ECU.  I'm swapping in a ME7.5 1.8t, and would like to match the immo.  i know i can just immo defeat the 1.8t ECU (which i can do myself easily), but thats the easy way out.  i know the immo version is different, but keep reading...

my thoughts are to pull the eeprom off the existing ME7.1.1 2.5 ECU and flash that to the 1.8t ECU, but i don't know if it would be compatible.

or...

if i had something to pull the PIN from the current ECU/cluster, try to normally match the ECU to the cluster/key via VCDS.

you can say I'm an idiot, and the ME7.5 ECU won't talk to a mk5 cluster.  you may be right about some of the CAN addresses/communications, but i know for fact that when connected and the ME7.5 gets power where it wants/needs, EPC and CEL pop up on the mk5 cluster.  I've done it myself.  i haven't got a running 1.8t on my hands at the moment to check and see if everything else works like it should, but my hopes are high.  i should have an engine in my hands in the next few months, but its coming from a donor car that belongs to a friend out of town, and getting it here is out of my hands at the moment.

and to go even further, once it all works in this car, i will be moving all the associated wiring and fuel system into my mk5 '06 GTI, and will need to reproduce this all over again with my GTI cluster and key. the CEL and EPC light also light up when using this cluster and the 1.8t ECU.  ALL "no communication" codes in everything go away after clearing codes, and everything seems to be happy.

i don't currently have a way to read ME7.1.1 eeprom, or the pin from a mk5 cluster.

i DO have a eeprom dump from the MED9 ECU out of the GTI, but don't now how to find the immo pin in it.

again, i can immo defeat the 1.8t ECU and make my life easier, but i want to at least give it a try to see if i can somehow match the mk5 cluster to the 1.8t ECU.

further questions:
is there something that will reliably pull the pin from a mk5 vehicle?
is there some kind of reader that will reliably pull the eeprom from a ME7.1.1?  i bought a SOIC8 clip and USB reader, but they don't seem to work.  these are what i bought:

if anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
