Still a no start.  Flashed original file back on, cleared codes and 16985 reappears.  Cannot clear.  There has been some chat of the EEPROM logging the code permanently, does it need edited?

Any smart ideas before i send it to an auto electrician? i dont have a bench set up just yet and i dont understand how to use argdubs eeprom read/write software so i dont want to make it worse messing with stuff i dont understand

If Nefmoto doesn't remove it (which that post suggests it will), it needs the deathcode removed from EEPROM.  Bootmode or nothing.

Tried another flash using nefmoto just then. It said flash sucessful but still no start.

If i bootmode it on the car and flash it with galletto 1260 would that solve it?

you can't just bootmode flash it and expect it to fix the problem.  You will need to read the eeprom, modify it to remove the death code (and calculate the new checksums), and write it back.  The write back part is the part that requires the ecu to be in bootmode.

ah ok! so i could possibly use argdub application to read the data from the EEPROM? i have looked at it but wouldn't feel too confident using it

yes, you may even be able to read it via obd, but you won't be able to write it back unless in bootmode.

visualme7logger has a helper screen for all of this.  download it and the argdub tool to make it a tad easier if you wish.

Thanks people!

I've been messing with argdub tool last night trying to get to grips with it as it would probably do no harm to read it before it goes to be fixed by someone else.

Will my immobiliser be affected if the EEPROM has a virgin file loaded to it? If so is it possible to make the immo work without having to manually change the data in the eeprom

These are really basic questions that can be answered if you spend a little time reading.  If you load a virgin EEPROM, you will lose the immo.

The EEPROM and flash are two different things.  You must use the same file that belongs to the EEPROM, no cross-flashing. 

Look:
>Either pull your EEPROM using Argdubs tool and fix the deathcode, flash back in bootmode the edited EEPROM.  Then flash a proper checksum'd file to the ECU.

>Get a new ECU (same as yours) and code it in using the standard procedure on Ross-tech and code keys.

Choose one, and do it. It's pretty easy dude. Smiley
