I am unable to change the soft coding in VCDS for ME 7.5, i change the values  and click "do it" and they dont stick, i was wondering if ecu need to be in car for a soft recode? and is this software-code located in the flash? and if so, can it be eddied in the flash.bin, or is this a VCDS only setting?

and why is it when i flash the 95040 with another immo file it changes the soft coding visible in VCDS, i found the FD box has 00001 coding which is closer then tiptronic coding, but atm on bench this seems to be only way me 7.5 soft coding to change, i know me 7.1 took the soft coding changes on the bench via VCDS last time, just wondering whats diff, ecu is flashed, but tried orig flash and orig immo file, the auto boxes just stay stuck as is, or is this a ecu that needs to be modified in car, im using login 45678 still doesnt change anything.

in the EEPROM there is a place for softcode.
Try to change it there (along with correcting the corresponding checksums- 2 places).
I hope you find it easy..

For LP box with 6 speed manual soft coding, is the hex location different dependent on ecu? and I'm just wondering if the soft coding in the same 5 digit format VCDS reports it as, and if so where is it? and in what format decimal or?

Mk4 me7.5 you csnt change the softcoding from auto to manual you need to use the right file. Cross flashing wi automaticly change tue softcoding. No variant coding will take

i was getting it to change when i flashed another IMMO file (from another box). 00001 coding was closest i got, but i did put the auto box in manual and with the 00001 coding (which is a manual) from a FN box everything works fine no errors. im just wondering the address of the softcode in the immo i dont mind experimenting.,

if i have ecu 06a 906 032 LP on left and 06a 906 032 FN on right, if i read immo and flash file off the LP and write it 1:1 to the FN, does the FN box not become identical, in every function? so meaning VCDS should allow any re coding to happen on either or am i understanding wrong?

Explain better please, when i read this it confused me again. Tony says "When looking for a compatible ECU, try to match all of the hardware in the car: engine type, drive by wire or cable, etc.

ECUs have different software based on the transmission, but not different hardware. An ECU from an automatic should work with a manual and vice versa."

if that is true obviously an automatic ecu can taking manual soft coding no? i understand while its flashed as an auto it should not, but once you flash a manual box file to the hardware, is the software not changing on is? there more software located elsewhere from the flash or 95040?

You can take automatic ecu, flash manual bin to it and edit coding from auto to manual in EEPROM (95040).  Roll Eyes

i guess i could read the 95040 on a working mk4, change coding temporary, re read,  do a compare, locate it, but just hoping someone can save me all that.

@007A & 007B and backup @008A & 008B
But it is not difficult to answer the "where" yourself with a little bit of searching/reading.

search like this: google> softcoding eeprom Marty site: nefariousmotorsports.
You will find answers for at least 50% of your querries.
