It's worth noting that in some engine designs running richer than 11:1 can actually induce detonation. So some extra fuel can cool but too much fuel can be bad. There is also the constant issue of excess fuel ending up in the oil and causing bearing failure. This is becoming more common with poorly tuned DI engines with excessive fuel that does not have sufficient time to properly vaporize and combust.
