Hi there,

I flashed my ECU now ~ 10 times and until now, everything wents well.
In the Noob FAQ is written, that when I brick my ECU, I need Galetto or MPPS for recovery.

I flashed the whole time with MPPS, so my question ist, if I brick my ECU, can I normaly put the MPPS cable in my OBD port from the Car and flash another .bin file on it or am I screwed need stuff like a benchtable and put my ECU out of the car ?

Thanks in advance !

You can be as careful as you like. You can never legislate for external factors that could affect the write.

If your car is critical, don't flash it unless you have all the equipment and skills needed to recover

Of course, I fully agree with you.
I put everytime the Notebook and the Car on power but if it gets a Bluescreen or something like this, thats it!
I think I going to look for a 12v Powersupply and that stuff, for flashing in worst case on a Table.

Sorry I didn't understand, what do you mean with "you would practice first ?" On another ECU ?

Is it possible to buy a used ECU from a Audi A4 B5 instead from a S4 B5 and flash the Software on it ?
For shure it have to be also a 1024kb ECU.

Yes, get yourself a spare ECU and test at home. Flashing just the calibration data is more or less safe (regardless of what people think and say, as I learned from prj and later checked myself, interrupted flashing sessions are typically fully recoverable), provided you have solid checksum fixer and you don't forget to use it.

Your worry should be when you go beyond data and flash new code (as I see in your other you plan to do). Here you are bound to make a mistake sooner or later that will brick your ECU.

Hi woj,
thanks for your answer !
So if I get a cheap A4 ECU, I can put it in my S4, flash my Software on it and it should work ?
It does only matters, that it is even an ME7.1.1 right ?
I ask, cause I can get an A4 ECU for ~50€ and S4 ECUs are dealt at 200€+

That I do not know, I don't do VAGs. But yes, you should have one that will accept the same software as yours.

Hmm, I think i'm going to look forward to get another ECU and just try it.
The day will come, I brick my ECU and then I'll be glad about to have another one and have enought time, to reanimate my old one.

Edit: Bought now one from 2000 2.5TDI, I hope it works

Thats not good, I tought Me7.1.1 = Me7.1.1

So the magic Question is, what will work ?
Does it have to be only petrol or does it have to be from a V6, from a Turbo ?
