Hey group,
I recently purchased a VF Engineering Super Charger kit for a 2004 VW R32. The kit includes an ECU with the tune for the kit. The tune was done by GIAC (verified by looking at the flash image). The problem is that after the ECU was adapted to another car the engine will no longer start. A little online research indicates GIAC has added some sort of security into the ECU code. Has anyone run into this before and figured out how to bypass it? Is anyone interested in taking a look at the code and giving it a try? I understand GIAC wants to prevent people from copying the software but when you buy the ECU with the flash from the original owner it would be nice if you could use it. GIAC has stated I must purchase the tune again.
thanks!

Anyone interested in taking a look? I have both the stock and GIAC flash files. Simply comparing the two files shows a few blocks of additional data in the GIAC file.

have you tried immo defeating the ecu, so it doesn't know which car it's in? This works with other tuners software.

I have tried that with no success, however the ecu was adapted to another car before I got it, so whatever "authentication" it had is no longer present. If I can get the VIN of the original car I will add it in and see if it works, but GIAC may also have used the IMMO ID or even the SKC.

Yes, I think you need it straight out of the car and then defeat it before installing it in the new car, otherwise as you've found it'll lock out..
Pain...

yea you must use ecu it came with and immo off or fully clone it with immo off before plugging it into another car.

giac must use the immo or vin id (most likely VIN) out of EEPROM area like an other tuner for this to work. So either change that in the ECU or hack the cluster and change it there.

You can adapt your cluster to the new ecu using vcds but you will need new transponders for your keys. or pm I'll take a look.

I would have fully cloned the ECU before messing with it had I got it in its original state. The previous owner had it adapted to their car by VW, so the original VIN, IMMO ID and SKC are gone. I do believe be can get me the original cars VIN so I can give that a try by adding it into the eeprom manually. Just doing the immo off and using it would have been much easier...
Thanks for all the feedback and information guys.
