Hey there,

I'm trying to read my ECU it's an RS6 ECU with the following specs:
Audi # 4D1 907 558D
Bosch # 0261 208 239
Chip is 29F800BB

Error I'm getting when doing a Read Info is:

Connection attempt number 1.
Connecting...
Slow init succeeded.
Connected
Starting diagnostic session.
Failed to start diagnostic session.
Received negative message response with code: SubFunctionNotSupported_InvalidFormat
Disconnecting...
Reading ECU info failed.
Disconnected

Error I get when trying to do a Read Flash is:

Negotiating communication timings.
Reading current communication timings.
Reading communication timing limits.
Requesting communication at timing limits.
Successfully changed to new commumication timings.
Requesting security access.
Received unknown message during security negotiation. Security negotiation failed.
Disconnecting...
Restoring Windows sleep mode.
Reading ECU flash memory failed.

I'm using a bench harness with a Rosstech HEX+CAN Cable and it works 100% perfectly for Lemmiwinks/Unisettings and VCDS.  I have also unchecked the boot in intelligent mode box.

Any assistance would be great, thanks

Ok so I installed 1.6 damn that's nice, well done Tony!!!

I can now do a Slow Init and then a Read Info works 100%

But when I try and do a either a Read Memory Layout, Read DTCs or Read Flash I get the following error:

Reading ECU flash memory.
Disabling Windows sleep mode.
Reading ECU identification option: calibrationEquipmentSoftwareNumber
Read ECU Identification calibrationEquipmentSoftwareNumber: 0x80120000,
Successfully read ECU identification information
ECU reports programming session preconditions have been met.
Starting diagnostic session.
Start diagnostic session failed, ECU reports security access is required.
Restoring Windows sleep mode.
Reading ECU flash memory failed.

Do I have a problem because the program might be locked down?  Anyone know how to get around this on an RS6 ECU?

The problems you were having with starting the diagnostic session should all be fixed in version 1.6. It had to do with some diagnostic session types requiring a baud rate to be specified, and other types requiring the baud rate to not be specified. It's craziness.

Can you send me the log file of your last attempt where security access failed? If you go to the menu under the NefMoto logo and click the Log File menu item, you can get the full log files.

I also cannot read c5 rs6. Using blue kkl cable that has flashed b5 s4, will not read c5 rs6. Can not connect with slow init, fast init, or at any baud rate.

That is not an option for me at this point, but is a fail safe option. From what I understand, I can write to this ecu but cannot read it. I would not do, or recommend doing that without having a backup first.  I am working on reading on the bench, that is the only option at this time.

If it is on a riser, odds are you will not be able to make a backup, even in bootmode

It is not on riser

Then buy an EOBDI cable and get galletto that will read whatever is there then nef will flash correctly.

Seems like this is the only option.  Thank you for the reply.
