agreed but recently I decided to buy a tune from someone on one of the other forums and to be honest I wasnt impressed with some of the changes made. Look clearly the guy knows his stuff but when I see things like KFMLDMX just put to 1200kgh except in the first row/column it makes me wonder....
and as you say this is for my own car and I prefer being able to firstly learn how it all works and secondly be able to play and make changes as I go.
sadly with dsg though, tools are a lot of money, as are the damos for them! and finding anyone who can tune them to give you something to work off of is much fewer. i wont lie, typically on tunes for people out of my country on cars i have not worked on in person, i do make some maps higher than normal, just forgiving thats all. thats what you get on "mail order" tunes though really.

From what I can tell you can't read Dq200 and DQ250 over OBD2, you have to connect it directly to the TCU. I know my Galletto 4 tool shows up when I open EOBD1300.exe. I'm just waiting on some parts to build a cable to connect to the TCU and then I'll see if you can read and write a file. Should be doing that this weekend.

Haver you tried it? I know that several big tuning house here in the USA that use Byteshooter and they connect directly to the TCU.

Just to give an update I was able to read my DQ250 on my 2006 Audi A3 with EODB1300.exe, a custom built harness connected to the TCU, and a FT232RL-Chip cable. This is the files that I read. (All for under $50)

Ok So I posted the file that I read with my own cable for the DQ250. So here it is.
Parts (All of them I got on ebay)
Transmission Connector Pigtail - The part number for the connector is 1J0 927 320 and then you just need to wires that fit. The best way to get the wires it to get a pig tail from a VW round transmission pigtail. There are not a lot of them out there but if you look hard enough you'll find them 12-Volt Lighter to Alligator Clips - I cut off the lighter and just used the Alligator Clips OBD2 100cm 16Pin Male to Female Extension Cable - Just cut the male end off (ouch!) FT232RL-Chip OBD2 Cable - Software EOBD1300.exe (See previous post for the exe)
After that I used these images and wired up the cable.

If I have understood you correctly, licensed FGtech can read and write DSG? I dont know how BS works, but CMD is able only to write DSG via OBD and download the file from the server (virtual read).

I couldn't get FGtech to work, I used a cheap FT232RL-Chip OBD2 Cable.

Maybe I'm blind but there is no EOBD1300.exe on the forum.

Works on early Cxx, but not Exx, Fxx, DQ200, DQ500 etc.

Do you know if this is because the software needs to be updated or you need a cable that has a different protocol? On another note, who made "EOBD1300.exe"?
