When that happens I disconnect, then perform a full read. After that it usually clears itself.

Which patch is that?
its not a patch, its disabling p0602-carb bit in file. which did not work, which means its likely set in eeprom. i however cannot reproduce this error on the bench now to see what gets set.

Worked for me... Just flash with MPPS or whatever you have. It will take care of it.

I ran into this recently as well on my 2005 AWP 1.8T Jetta wagon. It occurred after the initial read of the flash, but I admit I could speculate that this my mistake, in not properly disconnecting after the read, meaning I closed the application (NefMoto flash reader) instead of selecting disconnect before. So there is the potential that the missing disconnect command has caused this, unless the application does this automatically before it closes. Anyway, the only way I found to overcome it was to reflash with the file I had loaded before. Multiple reads did not help (I did several experiments before).

We have since developed an ASM workaround for this, it's a sticky somewhere

Thanks that is great to know. I am sure I will find it and it also tells me that I did not make a mistake in not disconnecting manually before closing the flash program. Please allow me to ask (it is just my engineering mind) - do we understand the root cause of this? I assume - yes, since otherwise the ASM (programmatic solution, assuming ASM stands for assembler) might not work in all of the cases.

The issue is that nefmoto doesn't properly exit the programming session on these newer ecus. It was designed to work with an earlier generation of me7 that didn't contain this code.
Most professional tools don't have the issue.

If I could find the details on what needs to change (meaning assuming there is a way to detect to newer versions of the ECU and it is known what commands need to be added or remove), I probably could modify the source code and update the NefMoto tool.

Nefmoto is closed source!
