I am getting "Failed to read test echo from FTDI device make sure device is plugged into OBD and in dumb mode"

I'm using comm port 3,
the driver installed is FTDI 2.8.30.0.
It says the device plugged in is FTDIBUS/VID_0403+PID_6001+A9YXP7ZVA\0000.

Is this a cable issue or driver issue?

I installed VCDS lite to check and see if that worked but I downloaded the most recent version which i don't think is the right version for an Ebay cable? but when i tested it in VCDS i got

Port status: ok
Interface: Not found

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Jake

In both cases you're not connected to a powered ECU.

Is the MIL lit?

Are you sure your OBD port is functional?

MIL is "malfunction indicator light" on cluster (also known as "check engine light" or CEL)

but yea, the light on the cable means its good to go. Something else is wrong, unfortunately.

Yeah i have no CEL light

The CEL light should be on if the ignition is on and the cable is plugged into the OBDII

Can you "licensing -> save info to file" and "licensing -> check if fdti devices support licensing" and attach the output?

Also, download and install FT_Prog... we can get more information about what cable you have using that.

http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities.htm#FT_Prog

hit f5 (or devices->scan and parse) and post a screenshot of what you see

You can also "hover" over the ftdi device as described here
