Info on QuattroWorld about changing instrument cluster mileage
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:14:57 AM »
Here is some info posted on QuattroWorld about how to change mileage on an instrument cluster. Not 100% complete, but thought I would post it here in case anyone is looking for more info.

Wonder what the name of the program is.
Edit: Looks like it's the software that comes with this cable

Yes it is, wondering if there is anyway to hex edit it to work with VAG? I dont know what to serial number of the cable provided so I am not sure if I can hex edit it to work? Any more info would be great.
I'm not sure if they use the same serial number as the galletto but probably not...

I have personally played with the milage in my '02 GTI with the knock off version of vag-tacho. It worked fine but when I connect the car to vcds it says the mileage has been changed.

Is your car a diesel?
Diesels apparently store the mileage in multiple locations.

Yes you can read the mileage from the EDC15 or 16 ecu's.
But it can be changed as well....

sounds similar to bmw as they store the milage info in three locations on some of their cars.

Just an FYI to anybody who may be performing a cluster swap - VagTacho works great on the 2000 S4 cluster, but won't work on a 2001.5 S4 cluster - for that you need the vag k+can commander 1.4 or higher. In both cases, the clones work great and you can even find them on Amazon.
