so i have an 01 a6 , i bought a cluster from an 01 a6.....is it plug an play? after reading a little i pretty sure its not (the ross tech site doesnt really explain to well) and i have to do something with vcds ( which i have )can someone pleeeeaaaaase tell me what i have to do .....or point me in the right direction..... tia

You need the skc (pin) for your ecu, then you can adapt the new cluster to the car. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer_III_Immobilizer_Swapping_(Instrument_Cluster)

so i get the nessacary ecu and cluster info from the old cluster and write it down and plug the new cluster in and transfer? seems easy enough , i think i have immo 2,  same procedure as the link?

Immobilizer 3.

If both clusters are the same year you can simply use vag k+commander to write the old eeprom into the new one.

all i have is ebay cable rs232 ..... do i need that specific cable daz ...... i was planing on reading /writing with the ebay cable .....

so doing more digging it seems like vag commander is a program , so ill look into downloading that and hopefully its easy to use.....

It's very easy to use, and contained in the "B5 S4 cluster bench flashing sticky" in the cluster and immobilizer section.  Just make sure to select k-line under connection, and you're good to go.

And you will probably need to select 'run as administrator' when you open commander.
