So... what needs to be done/changed for this setup to work (let's say you have only one intake pipe going to the TB, so no need for a dual MAF setup either from a single turbo car or say a funky IC setup).

Or can the MAF just be moved?

im going to take an educated guess and say you can relocate the HITACHI MAF for blow through, as this is a very common setup for the ford guys, whom utilize the same sensor more or less.  You could even buy a whole Ford blow through maf setup with housing if need be and adjust as necessary in the file.  It would be a lot of fun to get it working.  I half debated on doing this on my 1.8t at one point, then i figured out MAF delete........and havent looked back Smiley

some problems to ponder about:

#1 delete PCv system, you don't want extra air metered by maf
#2 it is common for blow-through MAF to measure less air that draw-through. Whatever physics behind it are, you will hit hitachi maf limit much sooner than with OEM set up suck-it-in setup

No other problems I can think of except of course one major one. How the hell are you gonna merge the charge pipes? I don't think running two mafs would work unless you had some custom electronix involved to somehow tell ECU what is the aggregated flow but let's not forget here our wonderful DVs that will recycle the air on you and create mayhem on boost spike...

So....all the problems for like no gain since these days you can run monstrously sized intakes/maf housings and the car will still drive primo.

i have been working on this... both hitachi and bosch mafs work in blow through fashion just fine per my testing on my single turbo car with a bov mounted in between compressor and maf.  my issue is finding a way to scale the flow range i need into a small enough housing (would love 3") and keep my charge piping clean.  I am back to running a 88.65 mm  maf pre turbo as i lock down single bank control.

the bosch actually seems to cope better with the heat swings.  the car is smoother and more consistent in blow through fashion even with you dont take the BOV into account.

I plan to re explore the blow through stuff in the near future with my e85 tuning

Ive been using a stock bosch maf for weeks now with no issues setup in a blow through position. This is what i plan on using for blow through in a couple of weeks since the stock is maxed out.

Thanks for the info guys... This isn't something I'm considering for my setup (it's just too complicated) with the two charge pipes, etc.

But maybe for a future project with a friends single turbo 2.7T.  Good to see that there are already people using it!

Taylor, how is the MAFless running for you?  Not sure what year your 1.8T is, any issues with ESP/ABS from not having a load reference?

well, 1.8t can run with mafless setup since they do have wideband O2 and therefore they calculate load even without maf plugged in so no issues at all in that situation...

ME 7.1 is seriously shoehorned into running MAF in draw-through configuration unless you are running single turbo setup where you might have it easier going with blow-through....

Anyway what problems are you having with draw-through?

None at all.. as I posted above I wouldn't bother going blow-through setup, jus tposting out of curiosity Smiley

Ah ok!  Wink

I don't exactly remember the reasons for going blow-through, only the issues with it, haha. Another one I just remembered is issues with accurate air measurements due to bends etc.

Apparently blow-through needs more straight piping leading to MAF than draw-through for accurate measurement.

same that i have been eyeballing.  mark @ asp also says that he has some people who can scale a maf to any size housing you need.
