I have the chance to pick up an apr stage 3 ecu with the correct injectors and maf. Now if this ecu was from a 2000 and has no esp i can still recode using vagcom to 06711 correct? Figured the you guys here would be the best at answering this.

ecu is 8D0 987 551 H but im guessing that was a typo and should 8D0 907 551 H

Many of the APR ecus cannot be recoded at all. You can however read the eeprom and do it manually.

I may be asking about this in the near future, but was just told the ecu came from a car with esp so should be all set. Im assuming its like reading and modifying the immo chip? Any good sources to read up on just in case I have to go this route?

There'd a lot on here about APR ecus, you may find Google better to search with than the forum search function. I've never got my hands on an APR ecu, but many have a physical standoff between then eeprom and the board, to prevent reading/writing over obd - so you may need to desolder to read the ECU. Personally, I would throw it into the car and see if it works!

one quick question, I'm buttoning up my swap and was just curious. Would I be able to write the 95040 on the apr ecu? Say i wanted to retrofit my immo that is in the b6 body, would I be able to write the rs4 95040 with the skc from 1.8 ecu that came out? edit nvm reread and realized theis would mean I have to flash the ecu as well with a bin the references the immo not just the 95040 flash so a no go.

Not the eeprom. Only the flash.

I've always understood that APR ties there tune / ECU to the original car.  I don't know how that could be bypassed, or if it can be bypassed, but I do know that DDillenger, Nyet, Turbo..  will know better than I.

BTW, I have recently learned, through experience and advise given by DDillenger and Nyet, that it's, at times, best to toss & trash these tunes, as they can be generic, cookie-cutter crap!

they can be used on another car(tested on a friends b5 and it started right up) as they don't have immo on the NA b5. As far as trashing it I'm good i paid decent money for whats a reliable tune, I'm not looking for peak numbers I want reliable with good power.

If you are looking for reliable tune you should go custom - off the shelf tunes are not even close to what you are looking for at least in my opinion.

blitz2190,   You said that it worked on an "NA B5" are you referring to a Naturally Aspirated B5?  If so, wouldn't that be the 2.8 30V??  Or, am I misreading the "NA" as being naturally aspirated??
