ECU compatibility
« on: April 03, 2015, 10:48:56 AM »
Can I use a 4B0 906 018 CL (2001.5 - ET: AWW) on a 2004 GTI with an AWP engine? Both ecu's are ME7.5, and the plugs are the same. I also believe the AWW and AWP are the same hardware-wise, except for possibly the turbo (k03/k03s) which doesn't matter. I was planning on flashing HN/HS software onto it (the 4B0 ecu). Thanks!!

A buddy of mine has an 2000 A4 that was converted to wideband using one of the old raceline-ws harnesses and an AWM ECU (018CH, basically the same as an AWW from my understanding). He didn't want the hassle of going DIY so went with Maestro instead. The Maestro base file he started with is actually an 032HS based file, so it must work on the Audi ECU. Flashing cross platforms is always risky, but in this case I think you are OK.
Usually the rule of thumb is the same bootrom (shown in ME7check) will cross flash. The HN or HS would be a good choice for you. Probably the best defined 032 bin out there.

The 018CL is designed to go in an enclosed box. It's not weatherproof like the mk4 ecus.

This is true. I was mainly going to use it just for testing stuff, though.
