reading my ecu and don't know the correct memory layout. it is a 06a 906 032 mt from a mk4 2.0. for the 1.8ts I do 800bb but don't know if its right for the 2.0. thanks.

Have a look at the inside of the ecu
or
get a similar file from google
or
just try different layouts

you are talking about nefmoto flasher?

And its a weird question tho
If you see double flash or a half flash so its definetely wrong memlay so why not just to try it?

if it is a 400bb rom but you read 800bb you can just split the file in your choice of hex editor. reading with wrong layout will just potentially mess up the file you save to your computer. writing to the ecu with the wrong layout is what is wrong.

remember. if your flash fails during writing, just click write flash again. do not reconnect to the ecu.

Hi, sorry to necro this thread, but if I have the ori file (or similiar) on hand, how can I tell which memory layout it uses?
I know it's a 1mb file (4B0906018R) so definitely one of the 800 layouts, but how can I tell apart between 800 and 800BB?

I'm asking for writing. The read has been succesful with the 800 layout, but as I understand the read would have also been succesful with the 800BB layout.

I usually write with MPPS anyways and never needed to worry about these, but decided to give the Nefmoto Flasher a go which is why I'm asking.

Still looking for an answer for this and I've searched around quite a bit. I know which layout is correct now, but still want to know how could I have known from having the file with me, mainly just out of curiosity  Cheesy

Thanks for at least replying, but I've read 4 out of the 6 threads before you posted them already (as I said, I've done quite a bit of searching). The other 2 still do not answer my question.
I am specifically trying to find out how to tell which memory layout an ecu uses from its original file. As I've also said, I've sorted this and have MPPS on hand anyways, this is just out of curiosity at this point. And using the Nefmoto flasher was also purely out of curiosity and wanting to see what kind of software was made by the community (though I will probably use it for ME7 ECUs instead of MPPS because of a nicer and friendlier GUI)

this is the part of this thread that sparked my interest. Is the only thing that we're able to tell from a file that it's 1MB or 512kB, or can we actually tell the difference between 800/800BT/800BB for a 1MB file? (even though BT was not used in production - you get the point though).

Just open the ecu and look at the flash chip. Ill toss out what I know to make things easier I guess. Bare in mind this is USA market only. When it comes to 1.8t  dbw anything that has a narrowband o2 sensor is going to be 400bb, all wideband 1.8t ecus ASIDE FROM APH beetle are all 800bb, the APH is actually a me7.1 ecu and its a wideband ecu without vvt its an oddball and uses 400bb. All 12v vr6 are 400bb and are wideband ecus, 24v vr6 use the 800bb including the r32. Matter of fact strictly speaking usa market, the 24v vr6 ecus are the same at a hardware level as the r32 ecus. Hint for the ones trying to do single lambda on dual bank lambda setups... The 2l engines azg, avh, bev, bbw are going to all be 800bb memory layouts. The avh and azg are virtually the same engine and ecu Non vvt, me7.5 and return style fueling. The bev comes in 2 flavors me7.5 and me7.1.1 depending on production date. The long block is the same as the avh/azg, the difference being the fueling system. BEV engines uses a 4 bar static returnless fuel system. The bbw is is a real oddball, cali emissions PZEV, it has 3 o2 sensors, and egt probe, uses the same style returnless fuel system as the bev and is equipped with vvt. The ecu is a me7.1.1 flavor only. The APB 2.7t and 2.8 30v both use a me7.1 ecu 800bb style flash chip, and are narrowband ecus. The BEL 2.7t The 3l 30v in the b6+ audis use a me7.1.1 ecu and use the 800bb memory layout. The Bel is a narrowband ecu while the 3l 30v uses a wideband version.
