Hi,

I'm trying to figure out what generation of ecu's were used in the mk3 OBD II era. My brother swapped a 97 Passat vr6 into his golf, along with its ecu, a few years back. I can't get a hold of the ECU part number as the car is in storage. Been searching online for the past week and can't seem to find a definitive generation. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanks JB

021 906 259 ?? if its an American market car or 021 906 256 if its a Euro market car.

USA is quoted as M59x and the Euro is M381.

Thanks. Those seem to be it. Can the Nefmoto flasher read and write for this generation? I see some threads for the m383 and 592.

Make sure the chip is not OTP (one time programmable). That can end the party pretty quickly.
