I have a 232BL and it does NOT work. Failed to read test echo...

It is possible that this isn't a "dumb cable". Does VCDS work with it?

Hey Tony,

When using one of these cables I can't get the newest version of Vag 11.11.1 to work and there is no "dump mode" in the new version that I can see.  Any thoughts?

TIA!

In VCDS/VAG-COM you have to turn off the setting "Boot in Intelligent Mode" to use dumb mode.

These cables should all work with VCDS/VAG-COM, but they won't work as registered/licensed/authentic Ross-Tech cables.

stupid question: is there a drawback to this setting? does vcds put the cable in the right mode when it starts up?

oh. ross-tech says

Quote
Boot in intelligent mode is checked by default. It allows VCDS to quickly determine baud rates when using a HEX interface. If you wish to try using your Ross-Tech dongle interface with 3rd party software (which is not supported by Ross-Tech), you may want to run a Test, then uncheck Boot in intelligent mode then run another Test. This will cause the interface to behave like an older style dumb interface and will not be compatible with most 6J Ibizas and it will be noticeable slower building the list of installed modules on the Select Control Module screen.

The "Boot in intelligent mode" setting only applies to genuine ross-tech cables. The blue eBay cables all only work in dumb mode anyway. ross-tech told me that the cables need to work in intelligent mode to properly connect to some of the newer cars.

I don't see that mode in the new version 11.11.1  It now says "Force Dumb Mode."  Should this be checked or unchecked?

TIA!

If you are using a genuine ross-tech cable, then I believe "Force Dumb Mode" should be checked.

Tony,

I have a Ross-Tech HEX+CAN USB cable, labeled HC464895 Rev. A
Earlier, you note the Ross-Tech cable to be use the FTDI 232R chip so it should support your premium features.  However, when I launch Nefmoto and hover the mouse over the device, it shows:

Type: FT_DEVICE_BM
ChipID: Not supported by this device

Just want to confirm my cable will work properly before attempting to flash my ECU (2002 S6 avant with ME7.1.1 going from tip to 6sp manual Smiley  Thanks!

Cable will work properly, but doesn't sound like it will work with purchasing a license for premium features.
